What seems like a meaningless Bucs home game against the Cowboys on Saturday night actually is one that could shape the future of the franchise.
Another clobbering and the Bucs' losing streak would hit eight games and could signal an end to the Raheem Morris era. Despite fan outcry for his head right now, Raheem surely has a chance to save his job with a strong finish in the final three games of this season.
On the heels of a surprising 10-6 record last year, the Glazer family must be holding out hope Raheem can right the current ship in a hurry.
But the problem is there's no solid reason to believe the Bucs can win another game this season.
Tampa Bay is a touchdown underdog against Dallas, which ranks significantly higher than the Bucs in nearly every statistical category. Most scary is the Cowboys' potent offense, unlike the Jacksonville Jaguars that averaged only 12.7 points a game before they rolled up 44 unanswered points on the Bucs last Sunday.
So how can the Bucs beat the Cowboys?
First, Josh Freeman must find a way to shake off arguably his worst game as a professional against Jacksonville.
It also likely will take big plays from the Bucs secondary. Cornerback Aqib Talib will return from a hamstring injury, and Dallas quarterback Tony Romo is prone to mistakes. The Bucs did beat pass-happy rivals Atlanta and New Orleans at home this season, and Dallas fits that mold.
Then there's running back LeGarrette Blount, who remains in striking distance for another 1,000-yard season. He should have plenty of motivation, and the Bucs play well when he's rolling.
Regardless of how the game plays out, one thing is certain: the Raheem Morris debate will get more intense next week.
