Detroit Lions LB Justin Durant clearly has a taste for Chick-fil-A, so much so that he allowed himself to be drawn into an ill-advised Twitter exchange with one of his followers.
(For those of you who don't deviate from the sports page, the fast food provider has been under scrutiny ever since Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy publicly said his company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit," drawing the ire of some gay advocacy groups.)
Durant's comments appear to be rather tongue in cheek, urging people to get over themselves. But he's still likely to draw fire for engaging one of his tweeps.
It started innocently enough Wednesday when Durant asked about the hubbub swirling around Chick-fil-A. Here's some of what he's had to say since he was clued in:
Chick-Fil-A not even open on Sunday how people shocked that the owner feels that way?
So people not gon get the best chicken sammich and lemonade on the planet because of a personal belief? Word?
The kicker came when he answered a rather pointed question from a follower:
Chicken too tasty RT @ThatStatBoy: @JDurant52 Would you boycott Chick Fil A if the owner came out and said slavery was a good idea?
I can tell some of y'all never had that Chick-Fil-A lemonade
(Expletive) is amazing
Durant weighed in again Friday upon realizing the stir he'd caused:
I've been called the highest level of (racial slur) and super ignorant for that tweet...making it even more funny to me
People always looking for something to be mad about
Prophetic words, Justin. You might want to lay off the Twitter and enjoy a spicy chicken sandwich with lemonade until this one blows over.
