St. Petersburg, Florida -- Gas in Tampa Bay currently averages around $3.54 for a gallon of regular. But by May, that price could be up to 60 cents higher.
Right now, oil prices are low and according to AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady, demand is at its lowest in over a decade. So what could spark pumped up prices?
Ther are two primary factors: refineries that have closed for maintenance or lack of profits earlier than they ever have before, along with gasoline blends that are swapped before summer.
"Once we hit the summertime and we hit high heat, additives are required to be put in the fuel," Brady says. "They're pretty pricey, and it's so that the fuel doesn't combust."

At Mad Beach Scooters in Madeira Beach, they're trying to avoid the problem altogether.
"When the gas prices start creeping up, so do the sales in scooters," says owner Leonard Lawson.
Scooters may max out around 45 miles an hour, but a gallon of gas can take you 100 miles.
"We don't wish high gas prices upon anybody, but we are in the business that definitely reflects the high gas prices," Lawson says.
What could still send those gas prices higher: Iran going through with its threat to block traffic traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, the passageway for a fifth of the world's oil.
"If that happens, we could definitely see an uptick in not only oil prices, but also retail gasoline prices," Brady says.
