Tampa, Fla. -- Armwood quarterback Josh Grady stated bluntly after his team's 17-0 shutout of Plant that last year's loss really fueled the Hawks.
It was very evident as Armwood jumped to a 14-0 lead at the half and rode a dominant defense to victory.
Plant running back James Wilder Jr. injured his ankle in the second quarter. He returned sparingly on defense but was ineffective, much like Plant's offense after his departure.
Armwood safety Leon McQuay picked off three Phillip Ely passes to lead the Hawks defensive attack.
The Hawks used their usual balance offense to keep Plant guessing. Fullback Kyle Wilcox got Armwood on the board with a 25-yard touchdown run and combined with running back Matt Jones to eat up yards and time off the clock.
Quarterback Josh Grady threw a 24-yard touchdown to Ronnie Thomas for Armwood's other touchdown.
