Crystal Beach, Florida - Two men were rescued tonight when their boat's central console began to smolder offshore from Crystal Beach, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said.
The FWC said the men phoned 911 from a spoil island about a mile from shore.
They were taken aboard an FWC boat and are reported to be uninjured.
The Palm Harbor Fire Department was called out to spray fire retardant foam on the 26-foot boat to make sure it did not catch fire. The vessel had 40 cubic feet of oxygen aboard, as well as 160 gallons of fuel, the FWC said.
