Brandon, Florida -- A Brandon man was arrested Tuesday after police seized thousands of dollars worth of marijuana plants at his home.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies conducted a search of Arianny Salvia-Cartaya's home, at 308 Larson Avenue, around 5:56 a.m.
During the search, deputies found three rooms converted into growing spaces containing lights, fans, and a secondary A/C unit. 53 plants, totaling 42 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $168,000 was seized from the home. Two firearms, a 2003 Ford F-350 truck and $7,600 in cash were also seized from the home.
The home is located within 100 feet of Mann Middle School.
Cartaya was found to have illegally connected into TECO's main service which allowed him to gain unmetered access to electricity.
Cartaya, 29, is being charged with Armed Trafficking in Marijuana, Manufacture in Marijuana, Own Lease or Rent for Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Theft of Electricity, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
