POLK COUNTY, Florida -- A cattle owner in Auburndale is very thankful for red light cameras in Polk County, especially since they helped catch the men accused of stealing some of his livestock.

"That is good money spent," said Ed Harvey Davis.

In December 2011, Davis found the chain to his gated pasture cut near Mount Olive Road and Berkley Road. He later discovered 12 of his cattle were missing. Among them were his best breeding animals.

Davis said three and a half years ago more than 30 cattle were stolen from another pasture. Those thieves were never caught. He was just now starting to recover from the loss. "I mean, it's a whole lifetime of work just goes down the drain," said Davis, whose been raising cattle on and off nearly his whole life.

Authorities with the Polk County Sheriff's Office said the thieves were captured by red light cameras at the intersection of Highway 27 and Holly Hill Road in Haines City, with some of Davis' cattle hitched to a truck. That eventually led to the arrests of Yoinel DeVera-Gutierrez and Andres Trujillo.

According to authorities, the men sold the cattle at a livestock auction for about $3,800. Detectives said they did this throughout the state. In fact, Trujillo was on probation for Grand Theft of Livestock.

Both Trujillo and DeVera Gutierrez are being charged with Grand Theft of Livestock and Dealing in Stolen Property. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
