At 8:07 a.m. this morning, a trained weather spotter reported seeing a waterspout located 2 miles due west of Indian Rocks Beach. The spout was embedded in a line of thunderstorms that moved onshore, but it appears that the waterspout dissipated before making landfall.
The weather pattern today includes more showers and storms moving onshore and with the rotation we are seeing offshore, the possibility of more waterspouts exists through this afternoon. Mariners and those residents on the beaches should be on the look out for strong storms.
Waterspouts are typically weak and although they can cause some damage on land, they typically dissipate quickly once they reach the shore.
