Hundreds gathered in front of the State Capitol today for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day.
Floridians from across the state gathered in Tallahassee urging lawmakers to remember the rights of the disabled.
The crowd hoped to educate legislators about the importance of the services and programs currently available to people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Many of those in attendance wanted to raise awareness on quality of life issues including the rapid growth of the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Wavers wait list.
The ARC of Florida and the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) teamed up to sponsor the full day of activities.
Florida Governor Rick Scott took time out to speak in front of the crowd. The governor said that Florida "has to do the right thing" when it comes to those with developmental disabilities.
