Complaints about telemarketing and from "Do Not Call" list subscribers topped the list for the third year in a row. The list is from the 41,961 complaints the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services received in 2011.

"Protecting consumers is one of our top priorities. An informed consumer is the best defense against fraud and deception," says Commissioner Adam Putnam in a press release.  "I encourage Floridians to learn about products and businesses before making purchases or entering agreements."

The department says that 41,961 complaints were received by the department and 25,187 were successfully closed or resolved. They say the department's consumer services team recovered $5,597,163 on behalf of consumers during 2011.

Floridians can check the history of a business or file a complaint by calling the department at 1-800 HELP-FLA or visiting our website, www.800HELPFLA.com.
