Before becoming a newsman, Roundtree was an officer in the Miami Police Department. He was named Officer of the Year after saving the lives of nine people, pulling them from a burning building. He entered broadcasting as a reporter at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, and distinguished himself reporting about crime and safety issues.

Once at 10 News, Roundtree gained tremendous recognition with his award-winning series of reports called "Getting Out Alive" in which he placed himself in dangerous situations to show the viewers how to survive them.

Active in many charitable and civic organizations, Roundtree currently sits on the boards of Tampa Bay Watch and the Clearwater Jazz Holiday. He resides in Palm Harbor and has two sons.
