"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
These words from Mark Twain have inspired my wife Paula and me to explore our planet with eyes wide open and the understanding that we are very, very lucky to do so. Since my childhood sitting in my grand uncle's room, watching slides of his visits to the pyramids, tracing his routes on a map as old as time, I've always wanted to know 'what's out there?'. The more I experience, the more I need to discover, and the more I realize you can't see it all...you'll never see it all, but that thirst remains unquenchable.
Our travel page is my way of seeing the world through other people's eyes and stories...the little kid still watching the old carousel slide projector.
Professionally, I've spent the last three decades in television. Here at 10 News, I serve as the Quality Control Manager, working with our Special Projects, News and Production departments. I'm heavily involved in everything from creating, directing and editing Sports and Special Presentations to Election Coverage to maintaining and coordinating our Graphics and Visual Appearance to overseeing Music Licensing and Administration.
Working in television news can be a tumultuous, even depressing experience at times...day after day witnessing the worst our world has to offer, but through all the negativity, we still see such hope and good will. Over the last 20+ years, our travels have enlightened us and allowed us to better understand this world we see on TV screens and computer monitors each day.
WTSP.com/travel then is partially intended to be an escape, but maybe more importantly, a resource. We have all the travel news of the day, of course, but we are constantly building and growing into much more. A place to visit...a travel destination onto ourselves, with enticing and interesting video and photography from around the globe.
Personally, I most look forward to sharing interesting reading and visual material, and passionate images and impressions from some of my favorite places in the world...boisterous Bangkok, Dubai, Maui, the French Riviera, Hong Kong, Italy, China, Indonesia, incredible Vietnam and unparalleled Istanbul, Turkey.
For the traveler, the next journey is everything...the unknown...the anticipation...and there is always a next journey.
